I remove dust and keep my home smelling fresh with unexpected £1 B&M item

Dust can be a real problem in homes, but there is a simple cleaning hack I rely on

Dust is an all-too-familiar nuisance in homes, seemingly reappearing the moment it’s been cleared away. It builds up along skirting boards, on televisions, furniture and walls.

There are numerous methods to tackle dust, from feather dusters to polish and cloth. Most of us tend to reach for a spray bottle of polish and a cloth, but I recently discovered a budget-friendly product from B&M that can do the job even better.

The cleaning hack has left my home dust-free while also delivering a pleasant fragrance. The secret weapon? Tumble dryer sheets.

While they are designed for use during laundry to soften fabrics and reduce static, these sheets can surprisingly double up as an effective duster.

The texture of the sheets lifts dust from surfaces rather than simply pushing it around, which is a common problem when using a standard cloth. Plus, their anti-static properties actually help prevent dust from resettling after cleaning.

I picked up a pack of Fabulosa Tumble Dryer Sheets for just £1 at B&M. Each box contains 40 sheets and is available in a variety of fragrances.

I went for the fresh linen scent to give my home a revitalising boost. To use the sheets, simply take one from the box and wipe along your skirting boards.

The result is a wonderfully pleasant aroma that fills the entire room, not just the area you’ve cleaned. The speed at which dust lifts from surfaces with minimal effort is truly surprising.

I decided to try the sheet on my chest of drawers as well, and was once again taken aback by the results from such an unlikely product.

Tumble dryer sheets are certainly underrated when it comes to dusting, but have firmly established themselves as a must-have in my cleaning cupboard.

What’s more, they can also be popped in drawers to keep clothes smelling fresh. Some have even suggested the sheets can tackle deodorant stains and tame static hair.

I did notice the sheet left my hands feeling slightly tacky during use, so be sure to give them a good wash afterwards.

How to use tumble dryer sheets for dusting

Simply pick up a box of tumble dryer sheets from your local supermarket or homeware shop. They typically cost under £2.

Once home, open the box and pull out a sheet. Use it just as you would a cloth and wipe down any dusty surfaces.

No polish or additional products are required. Continue using the sheet until it has dried out or becomes too covered with dust.

I managed to clean both my skirting boards and chest of drawers, and it still hadn’t dried out.

Once finished, dispose of it in the appropriate bin. Your skirting boards and furniture should now remain cleaner for longer, thanks to the sheets’ anti-static properties.

Simply repeat the process whenever dusting is needed again.
