Fringe Flicks Love Is Strange Short Film Night

25 September @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm
Pay What You Can

Fringe Flicks returns to DoES Liverpool with Love Is Strange, a Pay What You Can short film night featuring 13 strange, funny, unsettling and unexpectedly moving films about romance in some of its less straightforward forms.

Hosted by Liverpool artist-led organisation People Versus TV CIC, Fringe Flicks is an underground community film night showcasing unusual independent and experimental cinema from the UK and around the world.

Love Is Strange explores warped romance, awkward desire, tenderness, obsession and emotional misfires. Across live action, animation, stop motion and experimental film, the programme moves from tense relationships and impossible honesty to peculiar attractions, strange creatures, surreal encounters and a man who falls hopelessly in love with a pineapple.

The 13-film programme includes Best friend, Fruit and Nutter, Human Layers, IDYLL, Immolation, Joie de Vivre, Key, Parakeets, Perversion, Scarlett, Sound in Vision, The Man Cave and Wuthering Hearts.

Fringe Flicks is designed as a relaxed, social film night rather than simply a screening. Doors open at 7:30pm, with a specially curated Love Is Strange playlist by Esa Shields playing as people arrive. Films begin at approximately 7:50pm, with a 20–30 minute interval midway through the programme.

There will also be a raffle for fabulous prizes and an Audience Choice Award sponsored by The DCP Works, giving everyone at the screening the chance to vote for their favourite film of the night.

The screening, raffle and voting should finish at around 10pm, followed by an optional social until approximately 10:30pm for anyone who wants to stay and hang around afterwards.

Fringe Flicks aims to make adventurous independent cinema welcoming rather than intimidating. You don’t need to be a filmmaker or know anything about experimental cinema to come along. If you’re curious about short films, animation, surreal comedy, experimental film, peculiar love stories or simply looking for an unusual Friday night in Liverpool, you’re welcome.

Fringe Flicks: Love Is Strange takes place on Friday 25 September 2026 at DoES Liverpool, 1st Floor, The Tapestry, 68–76 Kempston Street, Liverpool L3 8HL.

The event is 18+ and tickets are Pay What You Can.

DoES Liverpool is fully wheelchair accessible.
