Spring is the perfect season to get back in touch with nature and start making the most of your outdoor space. If you’re hoping to welcome more wildlife into your garden, adding a bird feeder is a simple way to enhance its look while creating an inviting spot for visiting birds.
Home Bargains has plenty of options online for bird feeders, bird houses and bird baths including many for under £20. One of these is the Wild Garden Deluxe Bird Feeding Station which is £14.99 online.
It features four separate feeding stations said to be perfect for attracting a “variety of garden birds”.
The six foot tall feeder includes three hanging feeders, a mesh dish feeder and one water dish.
It means you can simultaneously provide different kinds of foods whether it be peanuts, seed, water, fat balls and mealworms.
However, it’s worth noting that the RSPB recommends suspending the use of seed and peanut feeders between May 1 and October 31. This measure can help tackle the spread of trichomonosis, a parasite that has drastically cut the numbers of greenfinches and chaffinches.
From May to October, large gatherings of birds at feeders can accelerate the transmission of the illness. The RSPB suggests it is better to offer only small amounts of mealworms or suet while maintaining impeccably high hygiene standards.
From November 1 to April 30 you can feed your birds a full range of bird foods, including seeds and peanuts.
Home Bargains’ product description says: “The Jardin Deluxe Bird Feeding Station is a 6ft tall all-in-one feeder with mesh and hanging feeders plus a water dish, perfect for attracting a variety of garden birds. Easy to assemble and ideal for peanuts, seeds, fat balls, and mealworms.
